thirty open source programs
- Two new Dell servers, both with dual Pentium Xeon
processors and 4 GB SDRAM. One server has 900 GB storage and the other
has 1200 GB storage. All hard disks in both machines are SCSI 10,000
RPM. These are dedicated servers, one is strictly used for storage for
Computer Science majors, and the other is for students (CS majors)
research and development.
- Two new Dell Precision Workstation 690 computers.
Each computer has two dual core Intel Xeon 5050 3.00 GHz 64 bit
processors, 4 GB SDRAM memory, and 80 GB 10,000 RPM SATA hard disks.
They are both running Gentoo; a Linux operating system. These are
highly specialized machines and will be used for simulated
networking. The networking software installed is MPI, Linda, and
PAPI.
- One Kyocera Mita FS 3020n general purpose networked
laser printer.
- One Epson FX-890 impact printer, this is not a general
use printer but will be used for students printing large computer programs
requiring hundreds of sheets of paper. (fan folded paper is used)
- One Epson GT 2500 Plus networked color scanner
