Venue

The workshop will be held in Plovdiv - one of the oldest cities in Europe with over 8000 years of history, the second largest city in Bulgaria, and European cultural capital in 2019.

The conference site will be in hotel Seven Hills at the foot of the Old Town in a remodeled historical building, 10-20 min walk to most of the museums and historical sites.

If you want to reserve a room in this hotel, please send an e-mail to the address above stating that you are a participant of IWCIA, your name, the type of room you would like - single, double, twin (two separate beds), or studio - and the dates of your stay. We made arrangements for participants to reserve rooms without providing a credit card ahead of time; you can pay on site by credit card or cash. The room rates are as follows:

Single - 60 BGN or Euro 30 or USD 33 (per person/per night)
Double/Twin - 80 BGN or 40 Euro or USD 44 (per person/per night)
Studio (for 3 adults) - 100 BGN or 50 Euro or USD 56 (per person/per night)

Important note: The Old Town is on three hills. The elevation is not high, but the pavement on the streets is cobblestone. If you do not like walking long distances, you may prefer the Seven Hills hotel, or one of the hotels closer to it.


 
    It has a Roman amphitheater still in use; we may plan to attend a concert or opera there if the schedule allows.

Transportation

The city is accessible in the following ways.


  • By air to Plovdiv Airport:  Plovdiv airport has direct flights to London (Gatwick and Stansted), Amsterdam, Izmir, Frankfurt (Hahn), Florence, and Moscow.

  • By air to Sofia: Sofia airport has direct flights to many European cities. Plovdiv is 150km (90 miles) from Sofia and there are several connections daily by bus and train. This trip takes about 2 hours and the ticket is about USD 8 one way.

  • By bus or train: The city has a bus station serving Eurolines and a train station serving international trains. Both are at walking distance to the city center.

  • By car: Plovdiv is on auto-route E80 - - Lisbon - Valladolid - Burgos - San Sebastian - Toulouse - Nice - Genoa - Rome - Pescara - Dubrovnik - Podgorica - Pristina - Nis - Sofia - Plovdiv - Istanbul.
