The purpose of the CompIMAGE'16 is to provide a common forum for researchers, scientists, engineers, and practitioners around the world to present their latest research findings, ideas, developments, and applications in the area of computational modeling of objects represented in images. In particular, the Symposium aims to attract scientists who use various approaches - such as finite element method, optimization methods, modal analysis, stochastic methods, principal components analysis, independent components analysis, distribution models, geometric modeling, digital geometry, grammars, fuzzy logic, and others - to solve problems that appear in a wide range of areas - as diverse as medicine, robotics, defense, security, astronomy, material science, and manufacturing.

The previous editions of CompIMAGE Symposium were held in Coimbra (Portugal, 2006), Buffalo, NY (USA, 2010), Rome (Italy, 2012), and Pittsburgh, PA (USA, 2014). These were recognized as very successful by the participants who came from many different countries from five continents. The keynote speakers at CompIMAGE have always been of the highest possible caliber. The Symposium has been endorsed by world's leading scientists such as the Nobel Laureate Herbert A. Hauptman.

After the symposium, the authors of the best ranked papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their works for publication in special journal issues and in a Springer thematic book.

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers on some of the above or closely related topics. The submitted work should contain only results that are unpublished and not included in other articles considered for publication elsewhere. Thus, by submitting a paper, the author(s) warrant that neither this nor any other paper with essentially the same technical content has been published or submitted for publication anywhere else. In order to be accepted, a submitted paper will have to meet very high standards by satisfying serious evaluation criteria; to ensure maximal objectiveness, each paper will undergo a double-blind review process by three referees.

There is also a possibility to submit short communications. After the symposium, the authors will have the possibility to submit full papers, which will pass peer-review process to be included in the proceedings published by Springer in LNCS series. They may also submit substentially extended versions for the special journal issues.
