University of New York at Fredonia Research: 1. EMERGENCY MEDICAL DATA WIRELESS TRANSMISSION : This project is continuing as an e-Health project. We have proposed MEDTOC (Medical Data Transmission Over Cellular Network) system. The ambulances are required to be equipped with cellular (3G UMTS) links and MDN (medical data network). Even if the ambulance is at a considerable distance from the hospital, it can use the cellular network for transmission of vital signs and additional data. In MEDTOC, the ambulance is equipped with a gateway that would convert the CAN messages to IP packet to be transmitted over the cellular network. To study the performance of the proposed system, we selected OPNET simulator as the platform. A simulation scenario was developed in which one mobile node travels across several node-B stations in its journey from point ‘A’ (disaster site) to point ‘B’(hospital) while transmitting aggregated medical data to the hospital. During the journey, the mobile node is handed over across many towers. We simulate various conditions including light load and heavy load on the network to study the loss and delay parameters when the medical data is transferred. In extending this work, we need to use quality of service parameters of UMTS and overload the network to simulate a true emergency situation. Teaching: CSIT435 Data Communications and Networks II. The syllabus is as under Data communications overview, communications model, technologies, Internet configuration Data transmission concepts, analog and digital data transmission, impairments, channel utilization; Data communication with asynchronous and synchronous methods, error detection and correction; Data link control, flow control, multiplexing, point to point and broadcasting transmission; LAN overview, topologies, bridges, switches, Ethernet, wireless LAN; Circuit and Packet switching, Frame relay, routing algorithms, IP protocol, VPN and security, TCP Intserv and Diffserv, SLA, Network management. OPNET based term projects Spring’09: Simulate SUNY Fredonia campus network model in OPNET ITGURU. The question is whether some MPLS tunnels can be set up to route the audio traffic of two types: (1) Audio lectures serviced by the library through a media server (2) Audioconferencing setup between the Deans, Chairs, AVP’s, VP’s and the President’s office. Obtain the performance measures under minimal load, medium load and heavy load of the campus network 2. Authored papers · J. Zubairi, S. Misbahuddin and I.
